The hydrogen hub in Holstebro, Denmark, supports regional energy transition and accelerate scale-up of green hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel for industry and mobility. The hub will be developed in two phases in close collaboration with partners within industry and mobility, with the aim of establishing safe, reliable and efficient local supply of clean energy.

Greenstat and Everfuel are actively pursuing to establish a hydrogen hub in Kristiansand, Norway. In a collaboration between the two parties and the industry companies Elkem and Glencore Nikkelverk, they will work towards a hydrogen production facility in Kristiansand which will be accompanied by a distribution centre targeting the fast-growing shipping segment as well as offtake opportunities from partners in the construction, trucking mobility and green energy supplies to industrial clients.

Everfuel is leading the flagship project HySynergy involving the establishment of a 20 MW PtX facility in 2023 aiming for + 1 GW before 2030.

The purpose of the HySynergy project is to establish phase I of a large-scale production and storage of green hydrogen, that will support the reduction of the carbon footprint within the existing Crossbridge Energy’s refinery processes as well as establish a competitive supply of green hydrogen as zero emission fuel for heavy-duty transportation.

Fuel cell taxis in Copenhagen

Copenhagen has set the ambitious goal of becoming a climate neutral city by 2025 and enabling zero-emission transportation will facilitate this process. Building the required infrastructure makes it possible for fleet owners to make the change and the transition to fuel-cell vehicles. Currently, the taxi company DRIVR drives approximately 100 hydrogen fuelled taxis in the streets of Copenhagen, and thereby offer a zero-emission solution to their clients while working towards the City of Copenhagen’s climate goals.

The project “Brande Hydrogen” couples an existing onshore Siemens Gamesa wind turbine with an electrolyser stack and enables a number of tests and experiments and shows that green hydrogen can be produced without using any energy from the grid, known as “island mode”. The project is the first to produce green hydrogen from wind in “island mode”, with the option of connecting it to the grid. The project now produces green hydrogen which is distributed by Everfuel. The locally produced hydrogen is distributed to Everfuel’s hydrogen refuelling stations

Flagship electrolysis and PtX project in Copenhagen

Everfuel participates in a two-fold flagship hydrogen and PtX project, led by Ørsted. The first part of the project, called H2RES, is a demonstration project, while the second part of the project is set to scale the project. The demonstration phase in Copenhagen, Denmark, has received funding from the Danish Energy Agency for the construction of a 2 MW electrolysis plant which includes an integrated hydrogen storage- and distribution facility. The facility will demonstrate flexible use of electricity produced from offshore wind turbines to produce green hydrogen for zero-emission mobility.

Fuel cell buses in Heinenoord, NL

In Heinenoord, near Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Everfuel has established a hydrogen refuelling station for 20+ fuel cell buses, to support the Provincie of Zuid Holland’s ambitions of zero-emission transportation. The station has the capacity to accommodate 50+ fuel cell buses in a redundant set-up, and the station can be scaled to also accommodate fuelling of other fuel cell vehicles such as trucks and taxis. The fuel cell electric buses in Heinenord are operated by the public transport operator Connexxion, who is the leading zero-emission operator in the Netherlands. Everfuel will supply green hydrogen and deliver service and maintenance at the station for a minimum of 12 years.

Hydrogen infrastructure across Sweden

In collaboration with Statkraft, Hyundai, Toyota and Hydrogen Sweden, Everfuel aim at establishing zero-emission mobility infrastructure across Sweden. With the project partners, Everfuel will work to ensure availability of fuel-cell vehicles, hydrogen production, distribution solutions and hydrogen fuelling stations to connect the major cities in Sweden through a hydrogen corridor. The project, called Nordic Hydrogen Corridor, aims at deploying up to eight hydrogen fuelling stations and associated hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure. Nordic Hydrogen Corridor (NHC) is co-financed via Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The NHC partners are in the execution phase, and the total budget of the project will be € 20 Mio.

100 MW PtX symbiosis and hydrogen distribution

GreenLab is a green energy park, technology enabler and national research facility. It consist of a series of project partners, where Everfuel participates in the development, establishment and operationalisation of a new large-scale Power-to-X (PtX) facility in Skive, Denmark. That will enable the production of green hydrogen, scalable hydrogen storage and distribution, as well as PtX symbiosis activities such as methanol production. GreenLab’s goal is a 100 MW electrolysis plant, which will be replicable in the rest of the world. When constructed, Everfuel will be the operator and owner of the integrated hydrogen storage and distribution facility. Besides Everfuel, the project partners consist of Eurowind Energy, Biomass Protein, Skive College, Erhvervsakademi Dania, Lhyfe, Skive Municipality, Sparvestfonden, Klimefonden Skive, Green Hydrogen Systems, Norlys, RE:Integrate, Energinet, E.ON Denmark and DTU Energy. The project is supported with € 10.7 Mio from the Danish Energy Agency.

Green hydrogen targeting the public transport segment

Everfuel is initiator and coordinator of the H2Bus Europe project. The project is the coordinated effort to implement green hydrogen production, hydrogen refueling infrastructure as well as consumption in the shape of Fuel Cell Buses. The Danish activities consist of production in the shape of HySynergy (read more above) the expanding station network, targeting heavy duty users like buses and trucks and end customers like Nobina who operates a Toyota Caetano Fuel Cell Bus in Copenhagen. Both production and fueling infrastructure are scalable and specifically targeted to the hard to abate heavy duty transport sector. The first phase of the project is supported by €40 million from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
